People May Need to, um, Talk to Each Other, Maybe Read Books

BlackBerry users may be sent back to using 20th century technology for checking their e-mail. It is a true tragedy, really.

An obscure technology company called NTP is claiming a patent infringement, and the ensuing court case could result in BlackBerry service being cut off to 3.5 million users.

BlackBerries are too light to be used as door stops; and they are the wrong shape to be used as coasters.

The one thing I can say about "CrackBerry" addicts is that they are not even one tenth as obnoxious as the guys with the Lieutenent Uhura-style earpieces who talk to themselves constantly. It has become some sort of weird way that people, mosly men, want to show how important they are. "Look at me, I can look like a total tool."

There is a commercial for some local business that is sending underprivledged kids for airplane rides. You know, "we really care about the community" sort of ad that businesses run in this time of year. So, the guy, dressed in his black jeans and work shirt that seems to be the uniform for young entrepreneurs these days, is explaining all of the wonderful things his company is doing for kids. But, right there over his ear, one of those cell phones. He couldn't even take the thing off for a commercial! He's got to stay in touch, you know.

That bit of self-importance tends to interfere with the message of charity, don't it?

I had a student who wore one of those. I told him that he can't use cell phones in class, then he said, "but it's hands free..."

Hasta la proxima. Do zobaczenia.

Comments:
Hey Ted, I think you switched the company names while you were typing. RIM (Research in Motion) is the company that makes the blackberry. I think that NTP is the company in the us that is suing them. They are also running into the same sort of problem in the UK.

Geez...I'll check again.

The Pueblo Room is cold. I thought you needed to know that.
