Concert for El Cramer

Vihuela and guitarron player Ariel Cramer died last year. As a tribute, Joey Burns has gotten Mariachi Luz de Luna, Mariachi Aztlan (two groups that Cramer played with) and Luca to do a tribute concert for him Saturday night at the Rialto theater. Tickets are $10 with procedes going to Cramer's family.

Cramer also did work with Calexico and Los Changuitos Feos, where all excellent mariachi players start. If I remember correctly, he was also one of the mariachis that played at my grandmother's funeral last October. I usually like to talk to musicians after their shows, and I found Cramer to be gracious and pretty funny too.

Burns wrote up a tribute to Cramer at Calexico's website. Tucson Scene has a longer write up about the show. The Tucson Citizen has a tribute to the man as well.

I poked around looking for Calexico videos that featured Cramer. The only one I was able to find was the video for "Crystal Frontier," but he is in the background...the vihuela is a rhythm intrument, after all.

Hasta la proxima. Do zobaczenia.
