SWE 0 - GER 2

Best reaction was from Eric Wynalda:
This is what happens when you have two forwards. I'm talking to you, Bruce Arena.

Speaking of which, all the Revs, former Revs and former Amigos are gone from the tournament:

USA: Clint Dempsey (Revs), Pablo Mastroeni (Ex-Amigos)
TRI: Avery John (Revs), Evans Wise (Ex-Revs)

But, hey, there are still ex-Revs Alexi Lalas, Eric Wynalda, John Harkes and Janusz Michallik...who are still present as, uh...commentators.

Hasta la proxima. Do zobaczenia.

Comments:
ouch on that comment.

I was wondering what an ex-soccer player does after they get too old, hurt or whatever to play anymore...I guess they become fodder for jokes by bloggers in Arizona...

In the case of the people I mentioned:

Alexi Lalas is the General Manager of the Los Angeles Galaxy
Eric Wynalda is a soccer commentator (you can make money doing that?)
John Harkes is a commentator and runs camps for young players
Janusz Michallik runs soccer camps

I rememeber one player, Eric Quill, who left the league for dental school.

Maybe not good money but certainly enough to keep him from starving and capable of making such comments like the one to Arena.

And leave the league to learn how to drill teeth...that I would never expected.

Hey are Clive Tydsley and Andy Gray ex-players?

Yes. Gray played for Dundee United, Aston Villa, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Everton.

I think if you have an English accent, they pay you a little more, but you cam make even more with a Scottish accent. That's just a theory though.

I don't know about the other guy.

They also go into coaching--there's a guy who used to play for Liverpool who runs some MLS team right now.

This is up there with players entering the league who were fans of MLS as kids for things we need for the league to be sustainable. In every other sport, retired players go into coaching, management, and broadcasting; it's a good sign that MLS has been around long enough for retired players to follow that route.

Thanks Prairie! :)
