Bodies Pulled from the U-Totem Dumpster

Phoenix correspondent Todd Lawson wrote to tell me that Fish Karma is now on eMusic and his songs can be found here.

Todd's favorite Fish Karma song is one called "Sunnyslope," possibly the best song about Phoenix ever (I'm sorry, but I have a hard time believing that Wilson Pickett's "Funky Broadway" is about Phoenix). Al Perry, who grew up with Karma in Sunnyslope, told me that his own song called "Sunnyslope" was inferior to Karma's because, "my song could be about anywhere, Fish's could only be about Phoenix."

Perry's song:

Purple mountains in the scorching heat
My shoes don't ever touch concrete
Five acre bars with heavy metal bands
And dust devils blowing trash and sand

Karma's song:

In Sunnyslope
There was no hope
Towards trancendence we did blindly grope
But we got left behind in the swirling dust
With broken down cars
Just gathering dust

He goes on to talk about wandering through Cristown Mall and throwing oranges at cars on the Black Canyon highway.

Hasta la proxima. Do zobaczenia.

Comments:
Actually Wilson Picket's "Funky Broadway" was a cover of a song by Dyke & The Blazers, a band from Phoenix. So yes, "Funky Broadway" is about Phoenix.
