Pedro Gonzales-Gonzales

Life-long second banana Pedro Gonzales-Gonzales has died. I've never been sure exactly what to think of him. He was a genuinely funny guy. He was discovered after he held his own against Groucho Marx on You Bet Your Life. However, many of his roles fell into the "Cheeto Bandeeto" category. This leaves me a bit sad for him, a talented comic voice often forced to play the stereotypical Mexican.

He was told by the City of Willcox that they would name a street after him. He told the city that he wanted the alley next to Rex Allen Drive. Appropriate, since he became famous playing Allen's sidekick in movies and on television. Allen's previous sidekick was Slim Pickens.

His brother Juan Gonzales-Gonzales was also an actor who played similar roles. His grandson, Clifton Collins, Jr., was in Capote and had a recurring role on Alias.

Erik Trevino would be happy to know that Gonzales-Gonzales grew up in and around San Antonio.

Also, Gonzales-Gonzales is his real last name, but his real first name was Ramiro.

Do zobaczenia. Hasta la proxima.

Comments:
He requested the Ally, because it used to be the one closest to the hospital. He also had a drinking fountain named after him in Keiller Park, but now it is outside the train care on Railroad Ave.

Another thing, he used to play the pots and pans @ Rex Allen Days, and get really drunk @ the Hopi Lounge. One year when I was a Rex Allen Days Abassador, he asked me to read his lines to him. I thought it was because he was old and could see. I later found out he could not read or write. Go figure.
