Szczesliwego Nowego Roku!

I spent last night at four different places. I checked out Amy Muñoz's band at a hole-in-the-wall on Palo Verde. There was what looked to be the aftermath of a rather intense police situation next door. The band was good though, and it included Ana Rosales, sometimes of Luminarios.

I also checked out bands at the District, which had a line-up of Mankind, The Knockout Pills and of all people Tom Walbank.

Surly Wench had a couple of punk bands playing, but the only one I stayed for was one called the Dirt Eaters. As you probably guessed, they sucked. Ever seen that episode of King of the Hill where John Redcorn's band plays?

Hotel Congress was, of course, the spot to be and I spent most of the night there. Marie Frank, a singer from Denmark, played the first show on the outdoor stage. Yeah, I'd never heard of her before either.

Al Perry played the lobby.

Giant Sand, with the new Danish line-up, headlined. None of the Danes are named Ogier, but they are great.

Screw cowbell, we've got bagpipes!

Howe Gelb with Al Perry.

Giant Sand's gear is second hand, apparently.

Cyril, Anita and two random women insisted I take their picture. Here they are.

Hasta la proxima. Do zobaczenia.
