Dust Devil Tournament

Instead of actually writing, why don't I just regurgitate a press release? That should show that I'm qualifeid to write politics for the Tucson Citizen.

I think I've told you guys about the Dust Devil Tournament that has been organized by Tucson Roller Derby. It's coming up in February and tickets are on sale now!

2006 Dust Devil National Tournament

20 Flat-track Roller Derby Leagues To Vie For National Title

Tucson, AZ January 2006 - Mark your calendars now because the flat-track roller derby event of the decade is closing in on us! 20 flat-track leagues from all corners of the United States are registered to compete in the 2006 Dust Devil this February 24, 25 and 26. Rollergirls across the country are gearing up and training for the fight of a lifetime at the inaugural tournament, now less than two months away.

The tournament schedule is as fast and furious as the skaters themselves. The competition starts with the first whistle blast Friday morning as every league plays several mini-bouts in a whirlwind round robin to determine which 12 teams will advance to the next day's games. The weekend only gets more intense as Saturday brings no fewer than eight full bouts, each one consisting of three 20-minute periods, as the competition is whittled down further. Come Sunday, the final four will duke it out in a true test of skill, endurance and sheer passion as each of the remaining teams play two full bouts in one day! The Dust Devil will take place at Bladeworld, 1065 W. Grant Rd, Tucson, AZ from February 24 - 26, 2006.

I'll try to keep y'all up to date on this one. TRD should do well, they nearly beat the highly rated Texas Rollergirls not too long ago. They also pulverized an AzRD travel team toward the end of the last season. They have not played the other teams, but a scheduled game against Duke City Rollerderby was cancelled after TRD's defeat of AzRD. Read that as you will.

The league has been good at promoting this too, with Whiskey Mick and Barbacide making an appearance on Eyewitness News to promote the tournament.

Hasta la proxima. Do zobaczenia.
