Great Cover Up

I'm lame, so I only attended one night of the Great Cover Up. I missed my friend Frankie's band...not once, but twice.

It's okay, I attended one night...but you didn't attend any.

I caught a band called Ham on Demand that covered Beck, complete with a strange microphone set up so the guy's voice sounded like, well, Beck's. No word on whether the lead singer of Ham on Demand will go all the way and convert to Scientology.

La Cerca covered Brian Eno. I managed to end up missing nearly their entire set, as I was buttonholed in the lobby by someone who had a plan for me. It involves marketing, apparently.

I have no idea if they covered "Baby's on Fire." I am always suprised that more people don't cover it. I have a Marc Riley and the Creepers album that covers it, but they get the lyrics wrong. The lyrics are the best part. I love hearing about "Juanita and Juan" and "second hand tobaccos."

I managed to catch Mr. Tidypaws of La Cerca though, when he sat in with Al Perry. Al covered songs by his friend, the late Link Wray. I'd seen him do those songs before, but I think this is the best I'd ever seen him do with them.

By the way, Link Wray website has reported that over the last couple of weeks both Bruce Springsteen and Bob Dylan have been begining their shows with "Rumble" as a tribute to Wray. Nice to see that his contribution to Rock 'n' Roll is being recognized by some of the greats.

Here's a piece of "scenester gossip" for you: our friend Grey Balloon (I'll continue to use two "L"s because it ticks him off) is apparently not living in town again. He came by for a visit to worry us, I guess. This hasn't prevented him from updating his pathetically named website, which prominently quotes me for some reason.

Hasta la proxima. Do zobaczenia.

Comments:
He quotes you because he has the hots for you Ted.

Would you like a bucket now? :p
