Stadium Tour and Supporters Summit

Saturday, they took us fanboys and girls on a tour of the stadium.

The luxury suites are all named for soccer players. They took us into the George Best Suite. I asked our guide about the propriety of naming a suite after a guy with a reputation for trashing hotel rooms. He laughed about it, then pointed out that there is a...

Canadian Dwayne De Rosario of the San José Houston Earthquakes poses for pictures with fans.

Marcelo Balboa. He had some long conversations with fans. Seems like a nice guy.

A bunch of us cut out of the lunch to catch a closed Revs practice. Bob Kraft actually came by and said hi. Notice that coach and former Liverpool FC member Steve Nicol is wearing his boots, ready to go in just in case.

Eric Wynalda, short time Rev and leading scorer for the US National team came down and watched the practice with us for a bit.

The "Marlborough Man" Mike Burns, played for the Revs for their first few years, now he works for the team.

This guy gave us a suprisingly interesting talk on the MLS Cup. He's the one in charge of the cup for the league. The cup originally weighed 26 lbs, but now only weighs 19.6 lbs because Lamar Hunt had trouble lifting it. What Lamar wants, Lamar gets.

We got a talk from referees Esse Baharmast and Brian Hall. Referees in a roomful of hardcore fans. Clearly, these are brave, brave men. Don Garber addressed the group later and made what seemed to be a clear statement that the Earthquakes would stay in San José, then Monday morning a press release from the league all but announced that they were moving to Houston. Go figure.

Hasta la proxima. Do zobaczenia.
