Revolution Calling

Donovan bugs me for another reason. His first name is Landon and he is a pretty boy. His stardom, such as it is, contributes to the knock against the game that it is played by effete suburbanites (as opposed to the knock, from the same people, that it is only played by swarthy immigrants). Geez, can't US Soccer push the stardom of say, Santino Quaranta or something?
I've got twelve years on the guy, but I've got more hair, by the way.

Speaking of Big Soccer, a guy on there who calls himself Soccer Doc argues that the Revs aren't really that good, since they only ended up in first place because they played inferior competition.
Okay...think about that one for a minute.

Saturday morning in Dallas will be the "Supporters Tournament." This gives up the chance to play against fans of other teams, and whip their asses so they can feel some empathy for the guys they root for.
Elizabeth Rogers asked why guys buy jerseys. See, here is the reason.
This tournament is one of the big differences between the fan culture in soccer compared to other sports. Soccer fans not only once played the game, but probably still do. It would be hard to imagine a serious fan tournament at say, the Superbowl. The game is quite populist.

So, I put a reference to Nicolas Coppernicus's greatest work and the Roman game of Harpastum in a title the other day...and none of you noticed! Are you all unlettered, or are you just jealous of my sly classical references?

Hasta la proxima. Do zobaczenia. GO REVS!
PS - More stuff: Monty Rodrigues versus Tommy Mack (also of BartCop) on Goal.com. I'll be hanging with both of these guys at the game. I found this rather strange cartoon with badgers in England jerseys. Totally unrelated, of course, but fun anyhow.

Have fun in Dallas, stay away from Fundie Chicks (and DO NOT GET DRUNK around them, if you wind up married to one of those psychos it might be harder to divorce it) and see you next week!
Am I to infer from this a tacit claim that Jesus was an effette suburbanite? What exactly is it these Christians have against Jesus Christ, anyways?
Aye..and a further implication that being a "gal" is an insult..either I should stop reading or stop thinking...hmmmm.
No...I am implying that the name "Landon" is effette and suburban.
Gals...that's just short for Galaxy, right?
Gals...that's just short for Galaxy, right?
Funny you should mention presenting Donovan as a bland suburban posterboy...this is one of the reasons I love Nike's recent campaign. Sure, he's there, but so are several other guys, and each one of them is from a completely different socioeconomic/ethnic background and part of the country. Most of 'em have really obvious regional accents, too. Here's a guy from a trailer in Texas, here's a guy who can't be from anywhere but Jersey, here's a guy from the projects in Florida and one from middle of nowhere Indiana, here's a Mexican-American from California who's got no time for los Tri. The face of US Soccer is the face of whoever's in your neighborhood, and that's awesome.
