Howe Gelb Barbecue
So...this little "post the pics" project is getting to take a bit longer than I would like. Like anyone is complaining though.

Sunday night's "barbecue" was a truibute to Rainer Ptacek, one of the most important figures in the local scene over the past two decades. The bass player behind Howe Gelb is Nick Augustine, Ptacek's basist in his old band Das Combo. Ptacek had a legion of fans; a tribute album for him came out shortly before his death that included Robert Plant, Emmylou Harris and Johnathan Richman.
Local folkie Mitzi Cowell joins the band on stage.

Nick Luca, formerly of the band Greasy Chicken. Yes, he's done an awful lot since then, but I thought I'd mention it.
Former Pedestrians singer Billy "Billy Sed" Sedylmayr and Bridget Keating of Mariachi Azteca.

Two interesting things: The Tucson Citizen has some video of the event. Last week Celeste Espinoza-Andrade told me I should put streaming video on the site, but failed to tell me how this would be accomplished given I didn't take any video of the event. Well, lucky for us, someone from the Citizen took care of this. Of course, the window is was too small, and for the most part, the sound sucks. Check it out anyway.
Also, Frankie Estelle of the band Sencha is working on the Tucson Band Map site. There is nothing up yet, but the "map" was up on the wall at the event. No Vegas Kids, Big Bug or Lonely Trojans...gotta work on that. Pete Frame would be proud.

Hasta la proxima. Do zobaczenia.
