Club Congress Anniversary: Cosmic Boogie Tribe

One of my favorite bands in college was The Cosmic Boogie Tribe, partly because I knew a few of them in my year at Tucson High. When they started, they were loose and fun. As time went on though, they became heavier. When they broke up, they had that really heavy distorted guitar sound with lyrics rapped/ranted on top of it, sort of like Rage Against the Machine, which started becoming popular around that time.

I was hoping for more "earlier period" stuff, but it was the heavy stuff. Someone shouted "Grapes," one of their fun songs, and Dave Lewis shouted back "We didn't rehearse it." I left a short time afterward. Turns out later, they did "Grapes."

Shows that you have to be patient.

Somebody shouted "Freebird!" Lewis said, "Hey, black men don't sing that..."

CBT was banned from Club Congress in 1991 after Lewis decided to climb on a lighting truss. Interestingly, they played across the street at the Rialto rather than Congress. Was the ban still on?

Comments:
I guess this means that you should never leave any venue until everyone else has finally gone.

something far more important that Ted failed to mention...
Team Surly crushed the o'malleys team by a score of 4 to 1, with Ted turning in a smashing display of his billiards might and crushing his opponent in a brilliantly masterminded come-from-behind win! All who seek to oppose the Surly Wench must bow before or feel our wrath! Good work on Tuesday Ted!

That is pretty amazing. Kudos on your team win.

*wanders off wondering how people can have teams for billiards*
