Water, Water Everywhere

I haven't had a chance to post in a couple of days. So this is this is the first I get to write about this.

I am now in San Francisco at my last YDA convention. My brother Tom and I left Tucson on Tuesday night around 8:30 to go to Phoenix. We took it a bit slow since it was raining, so we didn't make it to Phoenix until 10:30. We would have gone straight to Democratic Headquarters to meet the other Young Dems going to San Francisco, but Tom had to pick up something at the capitol.

We made it to the exit, and once on there, we found what seemed to be a lake at the bottom of the off-ramp.

I pulled up onto the curb, where it was a bit higher, and managed to manuever on it for some time. I saw that even with the increased elevation, I was still in a lot of water. I almost into a parking lot when we conked out. I waited a couple of minutes, then restarted the car and headed North, away from the capitol.

We ended up on Grand and 17th Street, when the water got to be too much again. This time, I managed to get it into a parking lot and then the car went bonk.

I talked to Tony Cani and Maritza Lopez. They both offered rides, but I couldn't in good concience bother them about it when there was 14 inches (a guy came by and measured it) of water on the road in front of us. It was getting to be around midnight, and the water finally went down.

I called and they sent David Martinez and a woman named Grace to help us out. I couldn't get the thing jumped. I think I totally chingered up the battery. Which is okay, I have had problems with it for two weeks.

I remembered that Volkswagen offers free towing. After careful negotiating with the Rhodes Scholar at Volkswagen that answered the phone, I had them tow the car to Tom's space at the capitol.

The whole time we were out there, there was a crew of three guys who were Teen Challenge Youth Ministers. They told us they were pushing people's cars out of the water for Jesus.

Don't knock it. A guy who was nearby was an off-duty tactical ops guy for ATF, he couldn't get the car started. Then one of them did one of those charismatic prayers, and the car started immediately.

The flight to San Francisco was a bit odd. Some guy got into an argument with one of those guys at the desk. All I heard was the desk guy telling him, "If you call me an asshole, you can't ride my plane."

What, you work the desk, it ain't your plane. Besides, it's my name on the side of it.

The passenger was sent home, and the employee was given a talking to.

With us having to take an airport train to the BART station, plus BART downtown, plus a cab ride, it actually took us longer from airport to hotel than from Phoenix to San Francisco.

I thought the "R" stood for "rapid."

I think if Tom and I had driven all the way from Tucson, it would have been less trouble, and we would have gotten here sooner.

Do zobaczenia. Hasta la proxima.
